This is an old article I wrote for The Big Tip. Written on 29/06/11.
Bernard Tomic will tonight play the biggest game of his life, taking on world number two Novak Djokovic. But did you remember him before he got this far, and before his great run at the Australian Open in January?
Tomic was not a very well liked man. In a massive change of heart however, everyone seems to love him.
When he ‘refused’ a training session with Lleyton Hewitt, there was a massive uproar with everyone saying that he was a little brat. What about when his father ordered him off the court a few years ago? Everyone was saying that he was the next Jelena Dokic.
But when Tomic finally experienced some success in the Tennis arena, all Aussie fans are quick to jump on the bandwagon. This happens with any sport.
Remember the 2006 FIFA World Cup? The Socceroos won the World Cup qualifier against Uruguay, and made it to the round of sixteen.
The Socceroos then participated at the Asian Cup, where they performed below expectations. This result made many football fans leave the bandwagon.
So that is why I ask, are we true Aussie Fans? or are we just like three year olds, who change football teams every five minutes.
It will be a tough ask for Tomic tonight, but I can see an upset on the cards.
Good luck to you Bernie, from a fan who was always on your bandwagon!
